Aloha Families — This is a LONG EMAIL, but please READ CAREFULLY.

We are wrapping up the 1st Quarter.  Our last day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, September 29th.  Then parent conferences will be scheduled for Thursday-Friday, September 30th – October 1st, 2021.  Your child’s teacher will be contacting you to schedule a conference.

The Parent Conferences may be held Zoom or Face to Face.  If you are coming to campus for a Face to Face conference, please bring your vaccination card.  If you are not vaccinated, please have a Covid test completed within 72 hours of your scheduled parent conference.  Wear a mask, and keep your distance.  Only the parents/legal guardians and student will be allowed for the Face to Face conference.

We will then have a 2 week Intersession Break, starting on Monday, October 4th.  School will resume on Monday, October 18th, 2021.

Report Card Grading:  Of course, with our rising Covid cases on Molokai, many families have take various precautions to keep safe.  This has also presented challenges educationally, and also for student grading.   We have given this guidance to teachers about your child’s report card grading.   Your child may fall into one of these 3 categories:

Situation Student 1:  Child unable to come to school because of quarantine, but returns after quarantine.  (Typically 0-10+ days out of school)
→ The teacher will use assessments and lessons for grading as normal.

Situation Student 2:  Child unable to come to school because parents feel school is not safe, so parents keep them at home, but asks teacher for assignments.  (Typically more than 10-40+ days of absences)
→ Thank you for asking for assignments.  However, homework assignments and learning packets are NOT equivalent to in-school instruction and assignments.  The teacher may grade accordingly.  Your child’s grade may either be an NA (Not applicable or not assessed), or Well-Below.

Situation Student 3:  Child is unable to come to school because parents feel school is not safe, or parents have another reason.  Parents have not asked for any assignments.  (Typically more than 20-40+ days of absences.)
→  Your child’s grade may be a NA (Not applicable or not assessed).
If your child does not return to school physically in the 2nd quarter,  on Monday, October 18, your child will be removed from the current homeroom.  Assignments for lessons will not be given.  Homeschooling or Virtual instruction will be encouraged.

If you do not anticipate your child returning to school in Quarter 22,  we highly encourage you to enroll in our virtual program for 2nd quarter (Please attend our parent meeting on September 23, 2021, 4pm for enrollment in Q2. (Please see previous email for Zoom meeting link)

We know these have been challenging times, and each family has had to make difficult decisions.  We know the right decision of Face to Face, Virtual, or Home Schooling will be made by each family for their children.  Please let us know if Virtual or Home-School will be the option for your child.  Mahalo.

Please email administrators [email protected] and/or [email protected] if you have any questions or need to discuss the options for your child.
