He mai!!! He mai!!! Join the celebration of “Lā Kūʻokoʻa” on Thursday, November 28 from 6:00pm to 10:00p at Kualapuʻu Rec Center. Check out the attached flyer for more info on games, food, and other crafts.

Lā Kūʻokoʻa marks the day, November 28, 1843, that Timoteo Kamalehua Haʻalilio succeeded in gaining recognition from Great Britain, France, and Belgium on a proclamation recognizing Hawaiʻi as an independent and sovereign nation. It was one of the most momentous events in Hawaiʻi’s history. The day continued to be an annual celebration from about 1844 to 1895, and for some years afterward, unofficially. Join us as we honor Timoteo Haʻalilio and kūpuna generation leaders who have been instrumental in preserving Molokai’s independence through the protection of native rights, the continuation of Hawaiian language, and the perpetuation of cultural practices & traditions.
