Math
Kualapuu School follows the Common Core State Standards for math and uses the Everyday Math (EDM) curriculum.
Everyday Math (EDM) was founded out of the University of Chicago and focuses on developing children’s mathematical understanding and skills through everyday situations that support life-long math power. Through EDM, Kualapuu students learn math through concrete, real-life examples. Repeated exposure of concepts and skills combined with the frequent practice of basic computation skills builds our students’ foundational math skills. EDM exposes students to multiple methods of problem-solving strategies in order to foster true number and math sense.
Students also use Reflex Math regularly in most grade levels to solidify their basic math facts in multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Fact power is the foundation of all math problem-solving and algorithms. Reflex Math is a fun approach which uses game technology to engage our students to refine their fact power. Students are able to utilize and practice Reflex Math at home also! Please inquire with your child’s teacher or Vice Principal Loretta Labrador ([email protected]) for more information about using these programs at home.
