Aloha Families — We completed our first week of school with our instructional staff (teachers and educational assistance who started on July 20th).  The mood was exciting yet apprehensive at the same time.  At this time, we are still scheduled to open as planned (Of course, things may change…)  Here are the updates for the week: 

Parent Letters confirming your child’s program (full day, half-day, and virtual) have been mailed out.  Please let us know of any request for changes by Tuesday, July 28th.  Please follow instructions on the letter carefully.  We will be finalizing teacher assignments and class lists after Tuesday.  Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your requests because class sizes and physical space are limited.  Also, at this time, we are not accepting geographic exceptions, except for Hawaiian Immersion students transferring from another Hawaiian Immersion program.  We are reserving our seats for in-district students only.  

Student attendance by appointment only:  July 30-August 11th — Students will be invited to come to campus for school orientation, assessment, and a re-introduction to school.  We will be notifying you of when your child will be attending.  Parents are expected to bring their children for the appointment, and then pick them up after.  Parent are NOT allowed on campus at this time.  (Special arrangements may be made for PreK and Kindergarten as allowed by the teacher.)  Please stay tuned for more information on this.  Note:  Our full back to school day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12th.  

SCHOOL LUNCH:  Yeah!  We will be distributing Grab-N-Go lunches on Thursday, July 30th, Friday, July 31, and August 3rd.  Grab-N-Go lunches are for only for Kualapuu School registered children ONLY.  Grab-N-Go breakfast and lunches are expected to start on Tuesday, August 4th.  So please complete your registration by July 30th.  Lunch pick up is from 11:30-12:00pm.   (Updates forthcoming as the weeks progress…)

Student Registration:  If you need to come to the school campus to conduct school business (ie Registration), face masks and sanitizing hands are required before entering the office area.  

Next Parent Zoom meeting, Monday, July 24, 3-4pm.  Please join us for another parent talk story.  We would like to know your thoughts about what kind of social and emotional support children might need be upon their return to school.  We hope to have ideas directly from parents so we can prepare our staff as our children return to school.  Listening to the conversation will be Makana Kaneakua, our School Counselor, and Vanessa Gonzales, Molokai Complex Behavior Health Specialist, and Special Education Teachers Lauwae Lee and Anne Whitney, as well as other staff members.   Please join us if you are able.
