A Welcome Letter From Koki Foster

Aloha Family,

My name is Koki Foster. I am excited to start a new year as your child’s art teacher. Depending on the quarter, your child will come to my class every three days for art instruction. I began teaching at Kualapu’u as an after-school art teacher in 2004. In 2012, I became a certified k-6 art teacher. I love teaching art and want my students to have a wonderful and enriching experience in my class. We will be learning about artists, art history, art appreciation, as well as exploring a variety of materials and practicing many different art techniques. In art class we have four rules.

  1. Active listening
  2. Follow directions
  3. Hands and feet to yourself
  4. Respect people and materials

We have practiced the routines and students know the rules and consequences in art class. Occasionally, some students have difficulty following the rules and misbehave. Students will get 3 chances before a letter is sent home. If a letter is sent home, please talk to your child and let them know that we care about their learning and expect them to behave appropriately in art class. The
letter is to be signed by you and returned the next day. * Grade 4-6 students may listen to music on their personal devices using earphones while they are working, but no games, videos or surfing the internet.

Mahalo for your support, I look forward to a great year!

Weeks 2 & 3 LINE & PATTERN

For week one and two students are learning about the artful use of a
variety of lines. Line is one of the most basic elements of art that sets
the foundation for art making. Students start with simple lines and turn
them into shapes and then eventually into advanced compositions.
